LASSEN VOLCANIC NATIONAL PARK KOHM YAH-MAH-NEE VISITOR CENTER

The architecture of the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center is intended to be historically consistent with the National Park architecture designed in the early part of the twentieth century. The 8,400 s.f. structure includes facilities for visitor information, interpretive exhibits, dining, retail sales, and 24-hour restrooms. The rustic design is constructed with large scale structural members, simple massing, and materials appropriate to the rugged setting in which the building is located. The project’s sustainable design goal was to offer practical design methods to optimize energy performance, reduce costs, and enhance comfort while minimizing environmental impacts.  The building was awarded LEED Platinum certification in 2009.
